For the love of vintage luggage

I have a major slight obsession with vintage suitcases and travel cases.  I think it's the fantasy of how glamorous travel used to be...fancy gowns in the dinner car of the train, men in wonderfully tailored suits flying Pan Am and luxury trips to Europe aboard great ocean liners.

 I want to buy EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

But, I know I can't.  I actually sold one of the suitcases from my own collection on Etsy last week {it sold within 24 hours}, and one of my vintage travel cases a couple of weeks earlier.





I'm not gonna lie, it was hard to let them go but I didn't have a place for them any longer now that I have rearranged the extra bedroom/craft room.  So, they had to go.  I strung them with a burlap banner that read "CARDS" for use as a card box in a wedding.

I have one more from my collection that I photographed and listed today.



My little Punky Brewster and I stopped by our local antique mall yesterday and I scored a vintage travel case and briefcase style suitcase at a really good price {I think the booth was getting ready to close because everything was 75% off}!

One was perfectly worn with vintage travel sticker on the top and bottom.





The other was in good condition but it has kiddie circus decals on it.  Not really my cup of tea so I'm going to give it the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint treatment soon.


It seems that I am seeing vintage luggage pop up everywhere in decorating lately:Country Living, magazine, Romantic Homes, Pottery Barn catalogues, so I guess I'm not alone in my obsession.  The only downside of that is that they are getting hard to find and even harder to find at a reasonable price.

Vintage Style Wedding LOVE

I love all things vintage...well, not all things but most things.

And, I love weddings.  Which is why my online shop is mainly wedding related items now.

Put those two loves together and my heart skips a beat.  Vintage style wedding LOVE!!

I just put the finishing touches on these:








I made these with some vintage heart shapped tart tins that I scored at an estate sale last summer.
I filled each one with scraps of burlap and tea dyed lace and topped with moss to transform them into bird nests!  I curled some coated wire into a photo holder shape and cut out some cute birds from manilla index card stock.  Each bird then got stamped with romantic script, distressed around the edges and then stamped with a whimisical number.

I'm hoping to find another large lot of vintage tins so I can make another set.

I got the inspiration for making these vintage style bird's nest table numbers from myself.

I sold about 5 of them, but saved two for me.  Well, about this time of year I start yearning for spring so I got one out to set on the buffett and it got my wheels turning.

Valentines cake bunting

Yesterday I decided to whip up some different Valentine's Day themed cake/pie banner, but I think they would be darling for a wedding cake too.  These are the perfect little something to add to a romantic meal...top a cake, pie, pan of brownies or a trap of cupcakes.

These LOVE banners are being stuborn and won't rotate the right way, but you get the idea.

My goal for next week will be to help my daughter make Valentines for her class.  I spied a cute idea on Pinterest that I think I may try to replicate!
